This thread might be dead or whatever, but here are my two cents anyway because I hear this kind of thing a lot ( especially if I play CS or LOTR battle for middle earth, not so much in Wow or RPGS hmmmm )

It doesnt matter, if you are a boy or girl. WHAT matters most, especially to gamers, is that you are COMPETENT and not a poser. And you cannot demand RESPECT, you have to earn it. That goes equally for both sexes.

Here is the sad fact of the matter - YES gaming is dominated by guys. Yes there have been ALL GIRL teams ( Check out the news on Wired and Kotaku)
but they are few and far between. You will have to STEP INTO this world if you want to be treated on an equal basis. Frankly, as Indian girls we haven't learned that. We want special concessions ALL THE TIME, for instance the "Ladies Compartment" on the Mumbai local trains. We want men to be gentlemen and hold the doors open for us , and then we wail about wanting to be treated as an equal.

In MMORPGS that doesnt happen. There are the strong and there are the n00bs and you either fall squarely into one or the other. If you are weak then YOU ARE and the only way to overcome this is the way EVERYONE takes, through long hard hours of playing. If you can't keep up DO NOT use your gender as an excuse. It isn't. And everyone knows that.

This rant isn't for anyone in particular - its just that I hear this all the time, from WOMEN AND MEN. Some women think its not feminine to play because of all the blood and gore , well F**K that. I'm as feminine as the next girl and I ENJOY IT. Its challenging and fun.
And the bottomline is, it isn't a case of Girls vs. Boys at all. Boys will not just unreasonably disriminate against you if you are a girl, but yes, use your gender as a fake front , as a bolster, as an EXCUSE and they will see right through that.

Yep to some extent i agree withwhat shadow wrote. Ppl want concessions for being female or for being a minority. I do agree to it that its just an excuse of not being the best. However this post and my other post of near about same date on gaming behaviour or something , were written to prove 1 precise point:

More male than female tend to play and go to any extent, be it unfair, immoral, unethical in our civilised world, just to win it. In terms of a3 it translate into sabotage in party, or repeated trade or other requests while a person is in pvp mode. And when any person condems it, (logically speaking a female will do it more coz they dont like such behaviour), it results in female gamers being hated more.

This is again not to say all male do it, but as research showed its more in males, that too particularly the teenage guys.

P.S . This post is nothing if u had read her thread posted about a year ago on game ethics. Just perfectly describes the gaming scene as was prevalent then as well as now in a3.

Er what research exactly ? :P

And okay, males tend to pk more, but the world isn't fair, darling. Take it in the spirit that it is. Men DO go through the same thing, you see the flame war posts on this forum as evidence itself. If you are talking about unfair or immoral I can give you plenty of examples of female behaviour as well.

What MY POINT IS - that it isn't a case of men "targetting" female gamers. Not at all. Its that females , as a rule, have become too complacent and maybe a bit too naive and trusting. They expect the world to be handed on a platter. Sorry sweetheart , the world is not fair, you have to fight for your street cred and in the world of gaming doubly so. Tough ? Hell yeah ! But you can either *censored* and moan and let it hold you back, or you can shrug it off, quit crying everytime somebody does somethign that doesn't agree with YOUR point of view.

And let me tell you, in real life as in gaming, NOBODY likes a whiner. Buckle up, take your punches and come back stronger.
