My cafe manager recently told me that he was giving an internet conn.(from sify) @495/month with unlimited usage initial 2000/- for installation.

he says that this will be a broadband conn(he didnt say the speed).they have already laid cables across our houses' roofs.and he says that we wont get a modem.only the cable plug will be inserted in the comps socket.

This should tell u it's a load of bullshit.
Your connection will be shared..meaning no constant speed. When everyone in the local network is using the net u will crawl..at other times u *may* get faster speed.

Best option is DSL..
I have Airtel DSL 256kbps in delhi-all you can eat round the clock(*) always on connection @ 1k per month. The DSL router is my own...no rentals.


(*)- no data limit, no time limit..leave ur comp on downloading movies all day if u like!

I started using sify conn in feb this yr.
In the starting it was like heaven, offering download speeds upto 30kbps, with my 256kbps conn, 1Gb, 1month plan @ 550/-per month. I faced absolutely no lag while playin A3 nd downloadin files was a piece of cake.
I renewed with same connection 3 times.

But as usual good things dont last. On my latest renewal speeds got down to as low as 2-3kbps. Calling CustomerCare didnt help much.

so im back to using my old connection facing lag nd not able to play at all.

IF YOU LIVE IN A VAST RESIDENTIAL AREA THEN DO NOT GO FOR IT, THE SPEEDS YOU WILL OBTAIN WILL BE THE MOST SUCKER SPEEDS EVER!

BUT IF YOU ARE GONNA BE ONE OF THE FEW PEEPS WITHIN 1 KILOMETER THAT IS AVAILING THE SERVICE THEN YOU MAY GO FOR IT.

i should consider these facts and figures.BTW i live in jamshedpur and i DONT know if there r any other isp's here.

@rexdude.i knew it was gonna be shared but the fact is that i dont know whether the speeds will waver at night 'cuz there r only a few ppl(5-6) living in this locality(who use sify).also they do not do any heavy work[checking mails etc..].

i enquired abt it further and came to know that the spped is 64 kbps for 495/- with unlimited hourly usage for 30 days.only 150mb download limit per day(u understand this dont u )

the 2nd option is 128 kbps speed with the aforementioned details for 795.

i was considering sify esp since they were the endorsers i thought the spd wud be btr.

i still have my options open. (i havnt taken it yet)

load of crap like i said..64 kb is SAD. forget abt playin a3 on that.
Many ppl claim bsnl is good..someone else could help u out.
And there are many A3ers from jamshedpur...ask em about it too..

I'm using Sify and its not that bad..... mind, this is the first month since i took it, and as far as I know, noone except has a bb conn around here. I took sify thinking the same thing as you mate, they being the promoters of a3. But, my freinds got Airtel and he has no problems with the conn. We've both got the same speed, 256 kbps. Most people tell me Airtels he best. I think you should you go Airtel, rex vouches for it too, right?

naa sify aint that bad. I use 64kbps one and i just get on an average 1 dc everyday and get killed coz of lagg once in every 2 days so it aint as bad as u think
