suggestion to show server on statue on site or login window

Dear sir,
Pls add something for the status of server to the main window or site so that we know that it is on and working. I have been trying since yesterday. But I am unable to login. I dont even know if the server is on or on maintenance. Pls add some option to check server status. thank you
