Well heres some interesting obervation, which can give insight into how monster/boss drops are determined.

I hunted a boss down in S2, just when i picked up the drops, the server got dced and was rolled back few mins. When i relogged i see the same boss (it cant respawn so fast) and i killed it again, however with diff drops. So it can be said that drops are randomly allocated to monsters.

However on a larger scale its possible on server side to give a menu of drops from which the drops would be finally chosen, like indian server bosses r made to drop ... well nothing :P.

s2 has so many bosses that it's possible to mob n kill em , i tried 3 bosses once n killed em too( had a healer), sad drops though. so, once u kill a boss n it drops something , it can't be alive when u reconnect. it must be an adjacent one. especially the northwest corner , there are 3 bosses side by side., if noone kills, u'll see all 3 at same time.

regarding drop rate of creeps. i observed that when u newly enter an area n kill. drops are good(usually) when people start going there n keep hunting for longer time. drop rate goes wayyyyyyyyy low.
This is a possiblity, need others to confirm.

There's also a possibilty that server goes gay sometime n drops way too many things. Like i got 3 NEri(G)s within 10 mins in c3 at 11:30-11:40 during some night. :twisted: got back to back djs in vemerden during timepass hunts several times.

i also noted increased drop rates from creeps when bosses are around or just killed. like i got ujs/g6 stuff/stabs/cats/eutuxias/Brang/etc/etc,. from creeps around boss n not from boss several times. wierdest was the brang which i got in s4 after killing 1st creep(culliph...big fat aunty) after the boss.

any others have noted anything else. please share :wink:

Maybe the drops r related to item value too.

for example g7 stuff drops very rarrely in r4.armour sets are commoner than weapons .this is due to the >npc value of weapons.also as u come lower in the maps(in order of difficulty that is)u get more drops.

r3 gives better drops than r4.(albeit g5).c1 gives even better drops(g4)
and carode gives a drop every 30 sec :P (g3).

hmmm....
drop rates are server dependent (gm's dependent)(as dred said most of the things r corrct)
Each monster has template which determines which item it will drop also with which drop rate.if u mess with this template(server side file) u can get g10 drop fom a memora
in the below link i saw a drop rate list try to find it urself
