It seems that the problem is either 1) You do not have directX 9.0 c installed or 2) there is a hardware conflict.

Do the following :

1) Click on "START" btn
2) Click on "Run"
3) type "dxdiag" (without the apostrophe!) and click on "OK"
4) Wait till the DirectX diagnostics are complete (take 10 ...

Been playing this a while now, good looking game interesting community and it was obvious this would go p2p some day.
